“Many people were like “why Mahesh Babu had to do a bilingual”? That’s great in my view. For the commercial image and superstardom he holds, he can do a commercial movie any day. Even standing in such a big position, he is attempting something new. Unfortunately, that didn’t click. But the effort he is putting is so genuine. It has to be appreciated. Why should a big star of that stature experiment? He can do any kind of cinema right? He can call up any director right? With so many things at his one call, he is still experimenting with films like 1-Nenokkadine, Brahmotsavam and Spyder” This is what atcor Sundeep Kishan had opined in his recent interview.
Maybe, what he has said is right. Mahesh Babu is someone who acted as a father to a child right in his second movie announcing that he is not going to a typical mass hero. Films like Takkaridonga, Nani and Nijam back then revealed the experimental side of Mahesh Babu and his want to explore new genres and new characters.
When he had three consecutive blockbusters like Dookudu, Businessman and Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, the star didn’t hesitate to risk his phase and stardom in an out of the box psychological thriller like 1-Nenokkadine. He never tried to carry that “mass hero” image which he earned with an industry hit like Pokiri. Although Aagadu had all the elements what his fans and B,C centers audience want, somehow, a weak script spoiled the opportunity to score yet another mass blockbuster. However, the opening of Aagadu was thunderous giving a clarity that “only mass films are meant for opening day”.
The star came back strongly with “Srimanthudu” stating what he could to at box office with a positive talk. Unfortunately, that was the last time Mahesh Babu fans had a happy face. Brahmotsavam and Spyder are nightmares. Will Mahesh Babu stop experimenting after this? Why it’s only Mahesh Babu, who has to do such kind of films? Why other stars, importantly Pawan Kalyan and NTR aren’t coming out of comfort zone? (Nannaku Prematho was an exception). While Pawan Kalyan pulled himself out from drama like SVSC, NTR left Oopiri after giving a nod. Aren’t these two as gutsy as Mahesh Babu is?
